What is baptism?

Water baptism is an outward sign of what God did inwardly when you confessed your faith in Jesus Christ. The word “baptism” means “immersion”. This means, when you are baptized you will be fully immersed in water and quickly brought out of it again. This two part process symbolizes an end to a life without Christ and a start to your new life with Christ.

Colossians 2:12 “For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”

Why should I be baptized?

Water baptism proclaims publicly your faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus himself set the example when he was baptized in water, and in Matthew 28:19, he commands his followers to continue the practice. Baptism does not provide salvation, but it does provide an opportunity to proclaim and celebrate salvation.

Who can be baptized?

Anyone can be baptized who has confessed Jesus as Lord and has committed in their heart to follow him. Children must be old enough to believe and confess their own faith before being water baptized.

Acts 8:36-38 says, “Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, ‘See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?’ Then Philip said, ‘If you believe with all your heart, you may.’ And he answered and said, ‘I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.”
